If you were suddenly unable to work, your clients would still need to hear from someone. Name a trusted colleague as your clinical executor, choose what they can see, and leave them instructions.
A continuity plan makes sure your clients hear from someone if you die, fall seriously ill or are otherwise unable to practise. Name a trusted colleague as your clinical executor and choose which of your records they can see, from client details and appointments to progress notes, client documents and invoices, for your active clients or your discharged clients as well. Write your instructions and send the clinical will for signing. Your executor signs in to a portal of their own, adds their contact and professional details and signs, and you countersign. Nothing is shared before the day comes. Your executor then asks for access and gives the reason, and you get a text message and an email to confirm or decline. Confirm and their portal opens straight away, decline and nothing is shared, and with no reply it opens after 24 hours. Once open, they see only what you selected and your instructions, to read and download, and every access is recorded. What you hand over and your instructions can change at any time without the will being signed again. Continuity plans are for solo practices.
