MY-THERAPY-SUITE vs SIMPLEPRACTICE

A UK mental-health alternative to SimplePractice

SimplePractice is a long-established US healthcare platform built around US clinical practice and US insurance workflows, serving therapists, psychiatrists, speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists from a Santa Monica head office. My-Therapy-Suite is built only for UK counsellors and psychotherapists in private practice, on UK infrastructure under UK GDPR, by a husband-and-wife team with one of them in the clinic every week.

01

Built for UK private practice, not adapted from US healthcare.

SimplePractice serves the US mental-health market: the compliance posture is HIPAA, HITRUST and PCI, the pricing is in US dollars, and the product is shaped around US therapists, psychiatrists, speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists. My-Therapy-Suite owns the UK talk-therapy workflow completely. Every screen, every routine outcome measure shipped by default (20+ with auto-scoring, including PHQ-9 and GAD-7), and every supervision workflow is shaped around UK counsellors, psychotherapists and counselling psychologists working with BACP, UKCP, HCPC and BPS rather than US regulators and payers.

02

UK GDPR and the ICO, not HIPAA and US healthcare frameworks.

SimplePractice's public compliance language is HIPAA, HITRUST and PCI: three US frameworks for healthcare and payments. No UK datacentre option is surfaced on the SimplePractice site, and no UK GDPR alignment is positioned as a default. With My-Therapy-Suite there is no region to choose. Your records sit on UK infrastructure under UK GDPR, with the Information Commissioner's Office as the regulator we both answer to.

03

GBP with VAT included, no UK pricing surfaced on the other side.

SimplePractice publishes pricing in US dollars only on its public pricing page (Starter $49, Essential $79, Plus $99 per month) with no UK GBP option or currency selector. My-Therapy-Suite starts at £19 per clinician per month billed annually (£24 monthly), VAT and AI included, with volume discounts as the team grows. For a UK therapist, that removes a class of questions before you even open the platform.

04

Husband-and-wife team, one of them in the clinic every week.

SimplePractice is a long-established US SaaS with a sizable team and a Santa Monica head office. When you email about a missing feature, a support agent reads it. My-Therapy-Suite is built by Inés Olivares Carretero, a practising UK therapist, and her husband Brecht Nys, who designed and built the platform. Inés sees clients every week, and every feature and flow passes through her own practice before it ships. When you email about a missing feature, one of them reads it. Direct access to the people building your software is a structural advantage of a smaller, focused product.

REASON 01

Built for UK practice, not adapted from US healthcare.

SimplePractice is a well-built, well-respected US platform. Its homepage lists its audiences as therapists, psychiatrists, speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists. Its footer cites HIPAA, HITRUST and PCI compliance. Its pricing page lists three tiers in US dollars and offers no currency selector. The product is shaped around US clinical practice and US insurance workflows, and that shape is one of the reasons SimplePractice remains a strong choice for clinicians inside the United States.

My-Therapy-Suite owns the UK talk-therapy workflow completely. The session-note structures, the supervision controls, the routine outcome measures shipped by default (20+ with auto-scoring, including PHQ-9 and GAD-7), and the vocabulary on every screen are shaped around UK counsellors, psychotherapists and counselling psychologists. No US insurance forms to ignore. No "in-network" terminology to translate. No charting fields that exist because someone in another country bills a US payer for them.

The same focus drives how we build, not just what we build. We build the features a UK mental-health practice actually needs into the platform itself: session transcription and drafting, document signatures, video sessions, intake and outcome measures. Fewer apps, fewer accounts, fewer places your client data has to travel through.

My-Therapy-Suite is built for one job: running a UK mental-health private practice. Every feature has to earn its place against that job.

REASON 02

UK GDPR and the ICO, not HIPAA and US healthcare regulators.

SimplePractice's compliance language is HIPAA, HITRUST and PCI. Those are three US frameworks for healthcare and payments, and they are the right frameworks for a US clinical SaaS to operate under. For a UK therapist whose supervisor, insurer or accountant wants a short answer to "where does my client data sit, and which regulator do you answer to?", they are not the answer.

My-Therapy-Suite has only one region. Your records sit on UK infrastructure under UK GDPR. The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is the regulator we both answer to. There is nothing to migrate, nothing to verify, and nothing to translate for a UK supervisor or insurer.

The full sub-processor list, what data each receives, and where it lives is on our Security and data page.

Trust questions about where your client data sits should have a one-sentence answer. Ours is one sentence.

REASON 03

Priced in GBP with VAT included, not USD with questions attached.

SimplePractice publishes UK-facing pricing in US dollars on its public pricing page, with no GBP option or currency selector. For a UK therapist evaluating whether to sign up, that raises a sequence of practical questions: will my bank charge me in dollars at whatever FX rate it applies that month, can I reclaim the VAT, can I even subscribe from outside the United States. The answers to those questions are not surfaced on the pricing page.

My-Therapy-Suite starts at £19 per clinician per month billed annually (£24 monthly), VAT and AI included, with volume discounts as the team grows. The price you see is the price you pay, in the currency you bank in, on a UK invoice your accountant already knows how to file.

A UK therapist should not have to translate a pricing page before deciding whether to trial a tool.

REASON 04

Built by people you can reach.

SimplePractice is a long-tenured US SaaS with a sizable team and offices in Santa Monica. That scale is real and one of the reasons SimplePractice remains a strong choice for established US clinical practices.

My-Therapy-Suite is built by Inés Olivares Carretero, a practising UK therapist, and her husband Brecht Nys, who spent a decade leading digital product development in international banking before building My-Therapy-Suite with her. Inés sees clients every week, and every feature and flow passes through her own practice before it ships. If it does not survive contact with real clients in a real caseload, it does not go live. Brecht designs, builds and ships it. When you email about a missing feature, one of them reads it.

Direct access to the team building your software is a structural advantage of a smaller, focused product. Whether it outweighs install-base scale is your call.

When you email about a missing feature, Inés or Brecht reads it.

When SimplePractice is the better fit for you

SimplePractice is a long-established US platform built for US mental-health practice. Two buyer profiles where SimplePractice is genuinely the better choice for the practice in question:

You practise in the United States.

SimplePractice was built for US clinicians: HIPAA compliance, US clinical-licence workflows, US state regulations and US payer billing. If you see clients in the United States under US regulatory bodies, SimplePractice fits that context and My-Therapy-Suite does not. My-Therapy-Suite is UK only by design.

You bill US insurers as a meaningful part of your practice.

SimplePractice's product is built around US payer workflows: claim filing, payer enrolment, ERA/EOB reconciliation. If a meaningful share of your invoices flows through US health insurers, SimplePractice treats those flows as first-class product concepts. My-Therapy-Suite is built for UK private practice and does not support US insurance billing.

Switching from SimplePractice

  2. 2Set up your practice. Add your details, import existing clients if you have them, set your availability.
  3. 3Connect your calendar (Google or Microsoft). Two-way sync starts immediately.
  4. 4Focus on clients. Reminders, invoicing, documentation. It all happens. You just do what you do best.

Questions UK therapists ask

Is SimplePractice a good fit for UK therapists?

Not really. SimplePractice is built for the US mental-health market: HIPAA compliance, US insurance billing, US clinical-licence workflows, USD pricing and a Santa Monica head office. If your practice is purely UK talk therapy, a tool designed only for UK private practice is going to fit your workflow more naturally than a US-shaped product retrofitted to your context.

How does pricing compare?

My-Therapy-Suite starts at £19 per clinician per month billed annually (£24 monthly), VAT and AI included, with volume discounts as the team grows.

SimplePractice publishes USD pricing on its public page: Starter $49, Essential $79 and Plus $99 per month, with 50% off the first three months for 7-day starters. No UK GBP option surfaced. Verified on SimplePractice's pricing page on 27-May-2026.

Where is my client data stored with each platform?

My-Therapy-Suite stores all client data on UK infrastructure under UK GDPR, with the ICO as the regulator. There is no region to choose and no migration to plan.

SimplePractice's public compliance language is HIPAA, HITRUST and PCI: three US frameworks. No UK datacentre option or UK GDPR positioning is surfaced on the SimplePractice pricing page or homepage. Verified on SimplePractice's homepage on 27-May-2026.

For the full My-Therapy-Suite picture, sub-processor by sub-processor, see our Security and data page.

Does either platform ship routine outcome measures out of the box?

My-Therapy-Suite ships 20+ validated routine outcome measures with auto-scoring built in, including PHQ-9 and GAD-7. You send them to a client through their portal, the client completes them at home, the scores land on their record automatically.

SimplePractice provides customisable measurement-based-care and assessment forms; pre-built clinically-validated UK routine outcome measures with auto-scoring are not surfaced as default templates on the SimplePractice site.

What about group practices, supervision and access controls?

My-Therapy-Suite supports group practice with a named Supervisor role, per-resource access controls defined per supervisee, and a team-member portal for receptionists and finance staff who do not need full clinical access.

SimplePractice supports group practice with team-member roles and permission toggles. A named Supervisor role for trainee oversight is not surfaced as a distinct concept on the SimplePractice site.

Does My-Therapy-Suite support US insurance billing?

No. My-Therapy-Suite is built only for UK private practice and does not support US insurance billing, US payer enrolment, US claim filing or US clinical-licence workflows. If those are part of your practice, SimplePractice is built for them and is the right choice. If your practice is UK private therapy, none of that applies to you, and keeping the platform clear of it is part of the focus.
