MY-THERAPY-SUITE vs CLINIKO

A UK mental-health alternative to Cliniko

Cliniko is a mature, generalist allied-health platform built in Australia since 2011. My-Therapy-Suite is built only for UK counsellors and psychotherapists in private practice, by a husband-and-wife team with one of them in the clinic every week.

01

Designed for talk therapy, not adapted from osteopathy.

Cliniko's own site describes it as "allied health practice management" and its co-founder is an osteopath. The platform is shaped around generalist clinics that mix physiotherapy, chiropractic and talk therapy under one roof. My-Therapy-Suite owns the UK talk-therapy workflow completely. Every screen, every routine outcome measure and every supervision workflow is shaped around how UK counsellors, psychotherapists and counselling psychologists actually work. That focus is the product, not a footnote about it.

02

Designed for therapists, not for power users.

Most practice software is built for the user who lives in it: receptionists, practice managers, multi-clinician clinic admins. Therapists are not that user. You are with a client for fifty minutes and the platform should not pull you out of it. My-Therapy-Suite is designed around that posture: subtle visual cues that surface what needs your attention without you hunting for it, an interface that stays out of your way while you are with clients and only surfaces what matters when you come back to it.

03

UK by design, not UK by setting.

With Cliniko you pick a region at signup (Australia, UK, Canada or EU) and "anywhere else" defaults to Australia. With My-Therapy-Suite there is no region to remember and nothing for your supervisor or insurer to verify. Your records sit on UK infrastructure under UK GDPR, and the ICO is the regulator we both answer to.

04

Husband-and-wife team, one of them in the clinic every week.

Cliniko is a 65,000-practitioner platform with a global support team. When you email about a missing feature, a support agent reads it. My-Therapy-Suite is built by Inés Olivares Carretero, a practising UK therapist, and her husband Brecht Nys, who designed and built the platform. When you email about a missing feature, one of them reads it. Direct access to the people building your software is a structural advantage of a smaller, focused product.

REASON 01

Designed for talk therapy, not adapted from physiotherapy.

Cliniko serves a broad audience. Its homepage opens with "allied health practice management software" and its co-founder is an osteopath. That breadth is a real strength if you run a clinic with physiotherapists, chiropractors and podiatrists under one roof.

My-Therapy-Suite owns the UK talk-therapy workflow completely. The session-note structures, the supervision controls, the routine outcome measures shipped by default (20+ with auto-scoring, including PHQ-9 and GAD-7), and the vocabulary on every screen are shaped around UK counsellors, psychotherapists and counselling psychologists. No body charts to hide. No insurance co-pay flows to ignore. No "in-network" terminology that does not apply to UK practice.

The same focus drives how we build, not just what we build. Where the broader allied-health category leans on a long list of third-party connectors (AI scribes, e-signature tools, marketing apps, accounting integrations), we build the ones a UK mental-health practice actually needs into the platform itself: session transcription and drafting, document signatures, video sessions, intake and outcome measures. Fewer apps, fewer accounts, fewer places your client data has to travel through.

For a UK talk-therapy practice, that focus shows up in the smaller things: how you write a session note, how you record supervision, how you handle a clinical risk flag, how you talk about your work to a supervisor or an insurer who already speaks the same language.

My-Therapy-Suite is built for one job: running a UK mental-health private practice. Every feature has to earn its place against that job.

REASON 02

Designed to disappear between your sessions.

Most practice management software is built for the user who lives in the software. Receptionists, practice managers, multi-clinician clinic admins. Their tools are shaped around them: dense dashboards, configurable lists, every status filterable, every detail one more click in. That serves their workflow well, and it is the world Cliniko was built for.

Therapists are not that user. You are with a client for fifty minutes and the platform should not pull you out of it. You finish a session and the next ten minutes are yours, not the software's. The diary should tell you what needs you and stay quiet about everything else.

My-Therapy-Suite is designed around that posture. Subtle visual cues across your diary surface what is billed, what has a note linked, what is still open. Reminders that need you appear once. Workflows complete themselves where they can. The interface stays out of your way while you are with clients, and only surfaces what matters when you come back to it.

It is a difference therapists tend to feel in the first few minutes of trial. Open My-Therapy-Suite alongside any other UK practice management platform and you will see what we mean.

The interface should disappear when you do not need it, and surface only what matters when you do.

REASON 03

UK by default, not UK as a region you remember to pick.

Cliniko offers a UK region. You have to choose it at signup, and "anywhere else" defaults to Australia. Once chosen, your data stays in the region you picked, and the region is not designed to be changed afterwards.

My-Therapy-Suite has only one region. Your records live on UK infrastructure, UK GDPR applies, and the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is the regulator we both answer to. There is nothing to migrate, nothing to verify, and nothing to explain to a supervisor or insurer who wants the short answer.

The same logic shows up in the small things. Vocabulary that matches BACP, UKCP, HCPC and BPS rather than HIPAA terminology. The full Security and data page documents every sub-processor, what data each receives, and where it lives.

Trust questions about where your client data sits should have a one-sentence answer. Ours is one sentence.

REASON 04

Built by people you can reach.

Cliniko is mature. 65,000 practitioners on the platform, a global support team, fifteen years of refinement. That maturity is real and it is one of the reasons Cliniko remains a strong choice for many practices.

My-Therapy-Suite is built by Inés Olivares Carretero, a practising UK therapist, and her husband Brecht Nys, who spent a decade leading digital product development in international banking before building My-Therapy-Suite with her. Inés sees clients every week, and every feature and flow passes through her own practice before it ships. If it does not survive contact with real clients in a real caseload, it does not go live. Brecht designs, builds and ships it. When you email about a missing feature, one of them reads it.

That is a real difference in how the product evolves, and a real difference in what your support experience looks like. Direct access to the team building your software is a structural advantage of a smaller, focused product. Whether it outweighs install-base maturity is your call.

When you email about a missing feature, Inés or Brecht reads it.

When Cliniko is the better fit for you

Cliniko is a mature platform with 65,000 practitioners worldwide. Three buyer profiles where Cliniko is genuinely the better choice for the practice in question:

You run a multi-discipline allied-health clinic.

If your practice mixes physiotherapy, chiropractic, osteopathy or podiatry with talk therapy under one roof, Cliniko's generalist depth fits that workflow better than a mental-health-only platform.

You weight installed base and maturity above mental-health-specific design.

Cliniko has been refined since 2011 with 65,000 practitioners on the platform. If years on the market and a large peer community weigh heavier in your decision than mental-health-shaped workflows or built-in AI, that is a legitimate reason to pick Cliniko.

You have practitioners working across multiple regions.

If your team operates across the UK, Australia and the EU and needs different regional data residency per practitioner, Cliniko's multi-region model is genuinely useful. My-Therapy-Suite is UK only by design.

Questions UK therapists ask

Is Cliniko a good fit for UK therapists?

It works, and the UK has plenty of Cliniko users. But Cliniko is built for allied health broadly. You will find physiotherapy and chiropractic vocabulary, scheduling shaped around clinics with multiple disciplines, and no built-in mental-health-specific tooling. If your practice is purely talk therapy, you will get more from a tool designed only for that.

How does pricing compare?

My-Therapy-Suite starts at £19 per clinician per month billed annually (£24 monthly), VAT and AI included, with volume discounts as the team grows.

Cliniko starts at £29 per practitioner per month in GBP, with volume discounts as the team grows. SMS reminders are 5p per message on top of the subscription. Verified on Cliniko's pricing page on 27-May-2026.

Where is my client data stored with each platform?

My-Therapy-Suite stores all client data on UK infrastructure under UK GDPR, with the ICO as the regulator. There is no region to choose and no migration to plan.

Cliniko offers four regions selected at signup: Australia (default for anywhere else), UK, Canada and EU. If you create your account inside the UK, your data stays in the UK; once a region is chosen at signup it is not designed to be changed afterwards. Verified on Cliniko's security page on 23-May-2026.

Does either platform ship routine outcome measures out of the box?

My-Therapy-Suite ships 20+ validated routine outcome measures with auto-scoring built in, including PHQ-9 and GAD-7. You can send them to a client through their portal, the client completes them at home, the scores land on their record automatically.

Cliniko provides a form builder that lets you create your own forms but does not appear to ship pre-built clinically-validated routine outcome measures as part of the platform.

What about group practices, supervision and access controls?

My-Therapy-Suite supports group practice with granular per-resource access controls, supervision workflows where a supervisor can see a supervisee's caseload under defined permissions, and a team-member portal for receptionists and finance staff who do not need full clinical access.

Cliniko has four fixed user roles (Scheduler, Receptionist, Practitioner and Administrator), with toggles for things like whether a Receptionist can view letters and attachments. There is no surfaced supervisor concept as a distinct role.

Does My-Therapy-Suite support multi-region or multi-country teams?

Not by design. We are UK only. If you have a team working across the UK, Australia and the EU and you need different regional data residency per practitioner, Cliniko's multi-region model fits that case better than ours does.
